The Academy Community-Based Services offers daily, face-to-face contact, mentoring, supervision, individualized counseling, and 24/7 emergency interventions for children and adolescents exhibiting behavioral, educational, and mental health concerns as well as the specific needs of their families. The Academy’s Community-Based Services allows students the opportunity to remain in their homes and community while providing services and supports to address their specific needs such as behavioral, education, employment, mental health, social, and truancy. The student is provided with services designed to meet their needs through life skills, academic enrichment, mentoring, individualized counseling, drug and alcohol education, mental health services, and other related services and supports.
The Academy Truancy Diversion Program provides interventions designed to increase student attendance, improve grades, and promote school engagement while decreasing truant behavior and preventing it from rising to a critical level. The Truancy Diversion Program offers daily contact and supervision to maintain the students’ school attendance. The Academy provides transportation for assigned youth to school and other scheduled appointments when needed. We work closely with parents, guardians, family members, and the student’s school district to prevent and resolve truancy to help the students achieve success in the educational setting. Students receiving truancy diversion have access to all of the services and supports offered by The Academy.
The Academy provides the youth assigned to their services with evidence-based and supported programming in group and individual settings. For example, assigned students have access to (a) Aggression Replacement Training (A.R.T.), (b) WhyTry, (c) Thinking for Change (T4C), (d) Teen Intervene, (e) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotions, Loss, and Future), (g) Decision Making, (h) Victims Awareness, (i) Gun Prevention, and (j) Parenting and Family Values. In addition, staff at The Academy receive specialized training to facilitate these programs with fidelity.
Our clinical team consists of 4 master’s level clinicians specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents. Therapeutic services include treatment for the following: trauma, inappropriate sexual behaviors, anxiety, depression, social skill deficits, anger, impulsivity, decision making, etc. Treatment is evidence-based and trauma supported.
The Academy has multiple teachers on staff that are certified to teach in Pennsylvania. These educators can work with The Academy Community Specialist to design educational programming specific to each student’s needs. Students receiving The Academy’s educational services and supports have access to the Edmentum Learning Platform, which provides the student access to academic courses and career and technical education. In addition, the assigned youth can participate in individualized tutoring and our literacy program, which is a partnership between The Academy and multiple local universities to provide its students with literacy instruction and tutoring.
Students assigned to any of the programs provided by The Academy have access to our transportation services. This service can assist the student, and their families get to scheduled appointments, school meetings, and other situations when needed. In addition, The Academy contracts with school districts to provide transportation to specific students with specific transportation needs.
